Jessica & Nick On the Rocks?
Is the success of their reality show and her popularity tearing apart Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey’s marriage?
Since Newlyweds became a hit show, Simpson has become more of a star than Lachey. When the two first met, he was the one who was on top of the game. He and his band 98 Degrees were hugely successful, and Simpson was just starting on the scene. That has totally changed since the two married in October 2002. Since then, Simpson has become a fan favorite. One has to wonder whether this will be a detriment to their marriage. Fans are screaming for Jessica and not Nick.
Simpson has a new sitcom in the works and a new beauty line, Dessert. Her album In This Skin has outsold her husband’s Soul-O by a margin of more than 3-1. At the recent Golden Globes in January, photographers actually asked Lachey to get out of the way so they could get solo shots of Simpson. Ouch! That’s gotta hurt! In a recent Newlyweds episode, Lachey commented on his "freakin’ two lines" compared to Simpson’s "about 40" in a VH-1 skit.
No doubt that Lachey may be feeling a little like Mr. Jessica Simpson. The question is, does the couple have the love and strength to make it through the rough spots? Most Hollywood couples face the obstacle of one person in the relationship being more successful or popular than the other. For some couples it works…for others it tears them apart, especially when the more popular one is the woman. Simpson says her popularity has increased because of Lachey, but will he feel that her popularity is detrimental to his manhood?
