Tired of Compromising in the Bedroom?

Introducing better sleep gift ideas for the odd couple.
Tired of Compromising in the Bedroom?
Couples compromise every day on what to have for dinner, which television program to watch or whether the toilet seat should be left up or down. One place they shouldn't have to compromise is in bed, yet almost every person sacrifices ideal mattress comfort to reach a happy medium with their sleep partner. Often, as a result, neither person sleeps well.

The Better Sleep Council reports that one in four couples would sleep better if their partner were not sharing their bed. According to a survey done by Minneapolis-based bed manufacturer Select Comfort, nine out of 10 couples aren't comfortable on the same mattress.

"Most couples do not realize that their mattress could be preventing them from sleeping well because it is too firm or too soft for one of the individuals," says Dr. Gary Zammit of the Sleep Disorders Institute at St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital in New York City. "And when they are fighting over the covers and trying to sleep on a pillow that someone else chose for them, nights can be very long."

The Key to a Better Night's Sleep

More than one million couples have settled their bed disputes by finding their Sleep Number -- a number between zero and 100 that represents the ideal combination of mattress comfort, firmness and support for each individual on a Sleep Number Bed by Select Comfort.

Unlike traditional innerspring mattresses, the firmness of a Sleep Number bed can be adjusted for comfort. With dual-adjustable air chambers, each individual chooses their own ideal mattress firmness without affecting their partner's choice.

Knowing their Sleep Number has helped many couples improve their relationships, as well as their lives, because of a better night's sleep. The Sleep Number bed is the only bed clinically proven to relieve back pain and improve sleep quality. In a study conducted at Stanford University's Medical Sleep Disorders Center, researchers found that 87 percent of those who slept on a Sleep Number bed experienced a greater percentage of REM sleep with fewer sleep disturbances.

A Gift for Your Sweetheart

If she is wearing socks to bed while he is tossing the covers on the floor to stay cool, couples should consider bedding that can make their sleep more pleasant.

This Valentine's Day, Select Comfort's "Odd Couple" accessory value package is an ideal gift for the couple who can't agree on a temperature in bed. The pack includes a choice of a dual-weight comforter or a dual-zoned heated mattress pad and two pillows of the couple's choice. The dual-weight comforter offers a lightweight side for less warmth and a heavyweight side for more warmth. The heated mattress pad comes with dual temperature controls that allow each person to independently adjust the warmth on their side of the bed.

The "Odd Couple" accessory pack is available at Select Comfort's 326 retail stores nationwide; through its national direct marketing operations by calling (800) 535-BEDS; and on the Internet at www.selectcomfort.com.
